Volunteering

Volunteering is an extremely important part of belonging to and being a member of U3A Hawthorn, which is a wholly volunteer-run organisation. We rely totally on volunteers from our membership to undertake the many roles that contribute to our successful operation. Without volunteers we cannot exist or provide the many benefits our 1600 retired and semi-retired members enjoy.

It is important to realise that tutors/convenors, external presenters, office bearers, working committee members, receptionists and others all volunteer their services free – no-one in U3A Hawthorn is paid in any way; and yet only around 10% of our members contribute to the organisation by volunteering.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, there are many ways in which you can contribute and be more actively involved.

In addition to the vital roles of tutor and convenor, individuals can volunteer to help in many ways including tutor support, assisting with room setup and pack up, catering, Office reception, curriculum planning, AV assistance, campus management, gardening and many other activities.

We also welcome people with the appropriate experience to become an office bearer or assist the various working committees.

If you feel you can assist or contribute in a small or large way, we welcome you.

Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator who will be pleased to have a chat with you and explore potential opportunities.
