Information for enrolling in all groups
The following applies to all participants in bicycling groups:
- By enrolling in any of these U3A Hawthorn Bike groups, you acknowledge that you have read and accepted the pre-requisites as detailed on each bicycling course description on the membership website.
- There are no groups suitable for beginner riders.
- You must demonstrate experience and competence when riding in groups, with new riders being prepared to be guided and mentored by the Convenor for up to 3 initial rides.
- You must have good cycling skills, be experienced in riding with a group and able to cope with occasionally crowded cycle tracks.
- You must be prepared for and able to negotiate road traffic (although all groups try to minimise this).
- You must keep your equipment in good, legal, roadworthy condition – including helmet, clothing, good tyres, brakes, taillight and bell.
- Only electric bicycles that comply with Victorian road regulations may participate in any U3A Hawthorn ride.
- Rides will traverse a range of different surfaces.
- It is recommended that you join Bicycle Victoria to avail yourself of their insurance coverage.
- These Bike Groups are not occasional recreational ride facilities. Numbers are limited and members who do not participate on a regular basis may be unenrolled in accordance with U3A’s conditions for ongoing course participation and to make room for new applicants.
Please refer to the online Membership System for details of each course. This information is a summary only.
